Directions: Go to the intersection of route 13 and hwy A. Go west from this point on route 13 and look for a park called (Twin Falls Park) just before the bridge.

Port Wing was established around 1901. Thousands of board feet of lumber were shipped out from the Port Wing Harbor. Commercial fishing was also a way of making a living back then. This is a peaceful area and a little commercial fishing is still active. Be sure to visit the harbor area. Keep in mind when you are in this Port Wing area that Lake Superior use to cover the entire area at one point in time. Standing on the overlook looking down into the cavern let your mind go back in time and try to imagine how many years it must have taken for the water to carve these falls out of rock. The smell of pine permeates the air as you wonder through the woods. There is a great picnic area at this park so be sure to take along food and drink. Be sure to hike around on some of the off trails. If you make it to the bottom of the falls you might want to take a dip in the pool. Be sure to bring a camera and of course your letterbox supplies.

Clues: Facing east from the parking area follow the walking path that leads to the overlook platform. Walk out on the platform and turn around and step back off the platform. Now follow the path directly to your right (heading east again) to a sign on your left that says (Top Ridge Trail) Follow the red markers through the grassy meadow and be sure to stay on the trail. Follow this wooded trail till you come to a point where a lot of trees are down. You will need to go towards the road and go around this obstruction of trees. As soon as you can turn left back into the woods and find the trail on the other side of the tree obstructions and follow the trail down the hill to a dirt road. In front of you will see a densely wooded area with pine and under brush. Look for a very large pine in front of a dead tree. Go to the back side of this large pine and you will see a dead birch log lying on the ground. The letterbox is buried under old pine needles between two little pines by the large pine tree "I think". Good Luck.

Note: Don't fall off any of the cliffs along the side of the trails. If you have children keep an eye on them.
