The "Grateful Letterbox" series of boxes are so named to bring attention to
a new Lb group. Although inspired by a love of Grateful Dead music, the only
admission criterion is that you must be grateful for something in your life.

The trailhead is in Tariffville, CT. From Rte. 189, drive approx. ¼ mile up Mountain Rd. and look for an orange steel gate on the right, the trailhead is just past it and marked with blue blazes. Park as best you can along the road (please, don’t block the gate or any of the neighbours’ driveways) or pull to the end of the cul-de-sac and walk back to the trailhead.

Head uphill on the blue-blazed Metacomet Trail (see: the Connecticut Walk Book, West). You will follow the blue blazes roughly South on Talcott Mountain. On the misty morning that I planted the ‘box I came upon a mature white-tailed buck, he was huge and sported a massive rack still in velvet—it was wider than his head.

As you walk, you will pass under a set of power-lines. And as you continue, you will eventually pass under a second set of power-lines. Soon yellow blazes will join the blue blazes along the trail.

Continuing to follow the blue blazes, accompanied by yellow, you will pass under a third set of power-lines. Shortly you will come to a small overlook on the trail, a nice place to stop for a snack break and water.

After a break, start heading back the way you came (toward the last set of power-lines). Stop at the first stump in the middle of the trail; a second stump can be seen on the trail just ahead.

Turn left to face 300º, approx. West. The ledge to the left forms the overlook, a small rocky outcrop is to the right. Walk to the back of the outcrop, in a cave behind a SPOR under the back corner look for your skeleton fiddler sawing the Blues for Allah.

Please stamp in away from the hiding place, and carefully avoid making or at least try to conceal social trails to the letterbox--especially in mud or snow! Kindly reseal the Lock-n-Lock type box, and re-hide the letterbox exactly where it was placed, covering it well and contact the placer if you find any problems.

Thank you, Connfederate
