To The Beach
Time: 5-10 min
Difficulty: Moderate. Need to climb rocks. Maybe difficult for small children.
DIRECTIONS:
This box is located at East Beach in Westerly, RI. The entrance to the free beach is located on Larkin Road. Follow Route 1A (Watch Hill Road) straight as it becomes Wauwinnet Ave, Bay Street, and finally Larkin Road. The road becomes Larkin Road as it turns left at the Watch Hill Carousel. You can find many parking areas along this road. The entrance to the beach is located up the hill from the Watch Hill Carousel around the sharp turn to the left.
CLUES:
Follow the path to the beach from Larkin Road. At the end of the path you will see the beach and a concrete barrier to your right. Climb onto the area enclosed by the concrete barrier. Walk down the length of the barrier until you come to the spot where you will need to step over the rocks to continue. Walk about 10 more steps until you see a rock above that has been spray-painted with a circle. The spray-painted circle is divided into quarters with a painted dot in each quarter. Climb the rock up to the spray-painted rock. From the spray-painted rock you are going to climb diagonally up and away from the direction you came from (left, if facing the rocks). Climb about six levels of rocks to a large flat rock that has three drilled holes in it. From that rock, step down to another large flat rock. Between the two large flat rocks, move some much smaller rocks to find your prize.
