*** Down for maintenance ***

This letterbox is a drive-by right off the highway with a spectacular view worth the stop as well as the stamp. In the vicinity is the start of the southernmost Lost Coast, a territory of much historical logging and a place where roads no longer hug the coast. This part of the coast has known many shipwrecks. If in your quest you notice you can no longer see the waters of the Pacific Ocean you know you have travelled too far and have missed the Lost Coast Wreck Letterbox. Turn around!

Drive north on Highway 1 past Fort Bragg and past Westport. You may be hard pressed to notice you’re in Westport so heads up! Past Westport start eyeballing the highway mileage markers. You are looking for 83.50 miles. When you see this marker pull over into the small turnout on the side closest to Japan. From the Alaska side of this space start counting the wooden posts supporting the guard rail. When you get to 18 stop and enjoy the ocean view, the beach and the treacherous rocks in the distance. Then continue walking 14 steps toward Peru along the guard rail. Stop. Look down and to your right next to a post and under a large rock for the Lost Coast Wreck letterbox.

Good luck.
