UPDATE: This box was in a temporary location through the balloon event. It has been pulled and is being moved to a new location. 9/01/2007
This box was made to celebrate the 1st Annual Columbia Balloon Invitational and the sport of Hot Air Ballooning.
This box is placed in a temporary location. The event runs from August 23-26. The box will be located in it's present placement through the end of August. After August 31st, it will be moved to a permanent location yet to be determined. Permanent placement may or may not be in Boone County, so take advantage of the location while you can.
The Balloon Invitational is being held at Corporate Lake in Columbia. From 63 Highway, take Grindstone Parkway west. Turn left onto Providence Rd. Turn right onto Southhampton Dr. You can take an immediate left onto the outer road and a right onto Corporate Lake Drive OR take an immediate left into the office buildings nearest the outer road and park there. If you turn onto Corporate Lake Dr., you will just have to find any place to park you want.
You will see an open field with Corporate Lake on the far side as you face west. Look to your left and you will notice a nice building with tons of landscaping. This is the Columbia Performing Arts Center. Make your way to the east entrance to this building. Facing east, across the driveway, you will notice a large plant "fountain." Walk straight to the fountain. Look in the bottom layer of this fountain (on the west side) behind the plants. Behold, your Missouri Skies.
Be very stealthy, as there will probably be lots of people milling around during the ballooning event. Have fun.
