From route 219 in Barkhamsted follow signs for Ski Sundown. 0.2 miles past Sundown limited parking on the left. Might be a two mile (more or less) hike with lots of uphill. Wear orange in the fall and it could get slippery in winter.

Enter trail at the double blue blaze, follow blue the whole way. After crossing a few bog bridges the trail will start to ascend with barbed wire on the right. After climbing a bit you’ll pass between two large boulders and come to a badly eroded section of trail. At the next BIG rock look left to see the Lake McDonough View Point sign with a red dot blaze. Follow this to the fabulous view, watch for the last sharp left turn (I didn't notice a double blaze here) bring your camera. After resting and enjoying the sight, turn around and after taking the sharp right stop at the double blaze on a tree to the left. Look right to a multi-twig-bush and check in the crevice under it for Foxy covered with small branches. After covering totally because it’s too close to the trail, continue back to the main blue trail and go left.

Continue going uphill reaching a trail register at the ridge. Feel free to sign in (no F count here).
Descend to a large open space (good for camping?) and then start your final ascent reaching a rocky ledge underfoot. After crossing the ledge the trail goes into deep woods and then into a more open area. At this point watch carefully for a three sister birch tree off trail about 20 feet to the right. See the BIG hole at the base? Look under leaves for Bare and recover well, please.
Return the way you came.
