Roaring Brook Preserve
AS OF 10/9/2014 CONSIDER THIS SERIES DOWN FOR REPAIRS.
A THOUSAND APOLOGIES TO ALL WHO HAVE COME TO DO THESE BOXES. THE PRESERVE IS A TOTAL MESS, TREES DOWN EVERYWHERE. I DID BOX MAINTAINENCE HERE LAST FALL AND COULDN'T BELIEVE THE BAD SHAPE OF THE SERIES NOW!!!! NOT SURE IF WE WILL REINSTATE OR RETIRE.....STAY TUNED!!!!!

Update April 2013:
Due to extensive tree damage in this Preserve, I have changed the appropriate age for kids from 5+ to 10+ There are many downed branches, all over, which make a huge tripping hazard for little ones. Please be careful.

This small, wonderful preserve is in Hadlyme, CT on Day Hill Rd. This is a short road that goes between Rte. 82 and Rte. 148, Ferry Rd. From Rte. 82 the turn you need is immediately after a gas/service station if you are traveling south, and it is marked Phelps Rd. The preserve is very close to the Ferry Rd. end. There is a small parking area big enough for two cars at the entrance. The Hadlyme Public Hall is at the intersection of 148 and Day Hill and has parking for several cars unless there is an event being held there.
You will need to bring a compass, paper and pen, and in the summer, bug spray. Parts of this trail are NOT accessible during high water conditions. Allow an hour so you have enough time to appreciate all that is here. Check the sign board for interactive trail sheets before starting. Although not absolutely necessary, there is a lot of information on them, and we highly recommend using one. You will be following the red blazed trail which is kind of a figure eight loop, bringing you throughout the preserve, with one loop on the upper level, and one below. When standing at the spot advising "caution" (#6) on the trail guide at the top of the trail leading down, notice that the upper loop continues straight from this point and you will need to return here to finish the tour after completing the small loop down by the brook. The upper loop ends back at your car.
This is a dog friendly area (Ace made sure!!) Kids over 10 would do fine also. It is absolutely not a good stroller area.
