February 2009: Updated clue. FP

Imagine you are a hungry herbivore on the loose in northeast Portland, Oregon. You find yourself in a cozy village, at the entrance to a stately school bearing the same name. Crossing a street named for an explorer (wait for the birds to be safe), you spot a marker and cross (more birds) to read a brassy tribute to the explorer. You ponder the inspiring and cryptic quote from Q’s successor, but a rumbling stomach prompts you to continue your search.

With an eye on the Hood, you move ahead. You pass an amber wooden “box” (very large) and consider the art along the sidewalk. Interesting, but as it’s not edible, you journey on.

You see the hop through the trees, inviting you over for refreshment – maybe later?

Ahead you spy a building the color of a storybook sky with a perfect summertime door. The sign shows another herbivore and you know you’ve found your destination. You’re in the right place if you can just see a pastoral view through arches off to the east.

For now, enter and enjoy! The box you seek sits in a vintage nook.

Hours: Monday – Friday, 11 am-8 pm; Saturday & Sunday, 9 am-8 pm

This restaurant features a wonderful menu for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Fabulous soups and sandwiches, delicious pancakes and scrambles, and good strong coffee – a few favorites. The new owner is continuing to host this letterbox, so please enjoy a meal and thank him and his staff for joining the fun.

This is my first planted letterbox and I’d love to hear your comments. Thanks!
