*This letterbox was planted in loving memory of Angela Marie, a dear friend who is missed each and every day.*
As you near Deer Isle, you will arrive at the green Deer Isle suspension bridge. From here, follow Rt. 15 for another 5.9 miles to Deer Isle Village and turn right. Follow on for .5 miles to the top of the small hill and follow the road left around the 90 degree turn. You are now on Sunset Road. Follow Sunset Rd. 2.2. Miles the Island Country Club will be on your left, continue on Sunset Rd. past the Country Club for another .6 miles. Take a right onto Goose Cove Road, follow Goose Cove Rd. The pavement will end after about .5 miles. Continue on the dirt road for another .3 miles and look for the “Barred Island Preserve” parking lot to your right. Park in the lot.
The trail begins on the left hand side of the parking lot at a green box reading “trail map inside”, sign in and get a map.
Now your search begins! Start down the trail past the “Foot Traffic Only” sign. Cross the set of double wooden planks. Continue down the trail. At the next wooden plank, cross only half way over, stopping in the middle of the plank. Face to the right. About 4 paces, (one pace=two steps), off the trail, strait ahead of you there are some arching tree roots; what you are searching for is hidden among them!
Please be respectful of your surroundings and follow the rules of the preserve. Re-hide the box carefully!
