Stamp has been replaced as of 3/24/08. I did not know so many people had visited the box so I will replace the log soon.

This is the first in what I hope will be a series of 26 animal letterboxes.

Living in Colorado, we are surrounded by many different habitats that are like or similar to habitats around the world. It is my hope to place each box in a place that one might find a particular animal or in a place that is similar.

So come along with me as we have some fun and learn more about some of the other creatures that share this world of ours.

First Place Ribbon for the first finder.

Anaconda intersting facts:

1. The Anaconda, a memeber of the boa family, is the largest and most powerful snake in the world. Although the mighty python is longer, the anaconda has a much bigger girth, making it over all bigger then the python.

2. Anacondas are primarly found in the swamps and rivers of the Amazon Rain Forest but can be found all over South America.

3. Anacondas are slow creatures and rely on stealth when they have to hunt which they only do 4-5 times a year.

4. An average anaconda is about 20 feet and 330 lbs but can grow up to 37 feet and 12 inches in diameter.

5. The anaconda has 2 extra rows of teeth on the roof of their mouth to help hold their pray. These rows of teeth can move independantly.

6. Unlike other species of snakes where the female is smaller then the male, the female anaconda can be as much as five times the size of the male.

7. The female will not eat during the gestational period which can last up to 6 months. Her primary activity is to bask in the sun to raiser her body temperature which can speed up gestation by as much as 60 days.

8. Anacondas practice cannibalism. It is not unheard of for the female to eat a smaller male anaconda just after mating.

9. A female anaconda typically gives birth to 20-30 live two foot babys but can give birth to as many as 100 babys. Most other snakes do not give birth to live snakes but lay eggs that hatch.

10. Once a female has given birth, she will leave the little ones to fend for themselves.

Clues to the Box:

Head down a street New Mexico knows well
To a road with a name that a miner might sell
Turn west on this road and then turn right
To a place where the river will show you it's might
Do not park near a place of alternate transportation
If you do, you may have another complication
You can park your car across the road
In a lot that was made for my humble abode

Go past the information sign ... left is the way
Along the paved path as flat as it may
At the Y in the path you will want to stay right
As the bridge across the river will come into sight
Cross over the bridge you should nearly be set
Go around the railing that says "Slippery When Wet"
Look under the bridge on the concreat support
Now that you have found me you can file a report

Please drop me a line at missflyer2007@yahoo.com to let me know how my first placed box is doing.
