Saffin Pond is located in Morris County, close to Lake Hopatcong, and part of Mahlon Dickerson Reservation in Jefferson Township. There are lots of great trails throughout the Reservation, but the one around Saffin Pond is an easy one, and only takes about 20 minutes (great for kids!).
To reach Saffin Pond, take Rt. 80 to exit 34B (Rt. 15 North). Stay on Rt. 15 for about 4.5 miles, take the Weldon Rd. exit. Stay on Weldon Rd. for about 3 miles, and the parking area for Saffin Pond will be on the right.

The letterbox was hidden by Alicia, Jason, Zach and Ashley, soon to be professional letterbox hiders. From the parking lot, proceed to the dirt road/path by the yellow barrier. Follow this road along the Pond, passing the beach on the left. You'll notice the beavers have done some tree removal. Follow the road to the far end of the pond. There are a few picnic areas there. Follow the path along the pond, past the picnic tables, over the bridge. The trail branches off to the right; stay to the left, following the blue diamonds along the path going around the pond. You will see a huge rock along this path. Next to the rock is a large tree which branches into a "Y". Walk around the tree to find a mossy area; to the left of the moss at the base of the tree, you will see a bunch of small rocks , and under them, hopefully, our letterbox! To get back to the parking lot, keep following the blue diamond trees around the pond. Good Luck!
