This letterbox is placed at the confluence of the Middle Fork of the Salmon river & the Main Salmon river in Idaho. It is accessible by raft & 2wd car via a long dirt road.

From a rafter/kayakers point of view it is placed on river left as the Middle Fork joins the Main. From a non-river person, it is placed across the river from the road up the Middle fork the only way you can get without a boat. If you are rafting the Middle Fork, eddy out on river left JUST above the confluence. If you are rafting the Main, then you are going to hike or drive back above the put-in, at the confluence & take the foot bridge. If you are driving & not rafting, locate the confluence of these rivers & get there, you too will need to use the foot bridge.

From either method, what you seek is placed just on the West/NorthWest side of the big pine tree on the west (river left) shore of the Middle Fork just above the confluence about 2-3 feet from the tree. It is under a large gray rock on a quartz slab with a gray (moveable, just larger than a fist-sized rock) holding it in a tiny cavity with this small gray rock acting like a door hiding a treasure.

Locate the small gray fist-sized door & remove it, you will then see a small tupperware container.

This prize is high enough above the high water mark, that it should be there for years to come.

This letterbox was placed by the Jacksons on behalf of Don & Gwen.

This is a fantastic river trip, there are many ways one can enjoy it, private group with rafts &/or kayaks, or through a licensed outfitter. Either way, it is a "must do" for outdoor & whitewater enthusiasts alike, with more Indian rock art & hot springs than you can shake a stick at, you will not be ready to go when your trip comes to an end. But at least you will be rewarded with a new stamp in your book once you get to the confluence.
