*** Box is believed to be missing, as of April 2010.***

We decided to hide a box in McCarty Park in West Allis. Due to all the visitors the park gets as well as the manicured nature of the park (no fallen trees, etc.) it’s hard to find a good hiding place. So, we made a little bitty box. If you have small stamps, bring them as the logbook is small.

Here in West Allis there’s always something loud going by on the street. Motorcycles, loud trucks and cars roaring by. We’ve thought of something that West Allis could use more of and we’ve decided to use this letterbox as a stepping off point for our campaign. Hee hee. Find the letterbox to find out what this town needs!

Park on the east side of McCarty Park (78th Street), adjacent to the playground. At the playground, count the number of swings, including baby swings.

Number of swings _____

Walk north alongside the enclosure for the tallest slide in the park.

When you reach the end of the fence, turn left and continue along the fence towards the lake. Count the number of blue places to rest on your left as you walk along.

Number of blue places to rest _____

When you come to the end of the fence (near a small house that’s a concession stand in the summer) you’ll find a place to fly the country’s colors to your immediate left. Read the plaque below and count the number of letter P’s in the text.

Number of letter P’s on the plaque _____

Now do a little math:

# of swings _____ + # of blue places to rest ______ + number of P’s on plaque - 1 = _______ (X)

Looking towards the west you’ll notice a nice place for sledding. If there are leaves on the trees they will obscure your view from the flagpole so just head down the hill a little until you see what you’re looking for. Head towards that place. Watch where you step. The geese and ducks have left you little treats everywhere (seasonal availability).

From the top take a compass reading and head towards a patch of trees and bushes at 270 degrees. As you near the trees you’ll spot a short dirt and rock path that will take you across a small concrete dam. Don't fall in! (If it’s winter and icy you can find a wooden bridge a little farther to the west along the asphalt path).

Go up to the asphalt path and turn left to walk counter-clockwise around the lake (If you’ve taken the bridge you won’t need to make this turn). Following the path, you will find a fair-skinned family on your right with ______ (X) members in its group.

Find the eldest member of the family. His closest neighbor holds the letterbox in his chest!

Exercise stealth in taking out the letterbox as there are always people nearby – take care when hiding the box as well. It’s difficult to camouflage but do your best!

Now you can just walk along the path and back to the playground to return to your car or make a few more laps around the lake if the weather is nice!

We’d be happy to hear if you’ve found the box and be sure to email us if the box is missing or in need of maintenance!
