Niquette Bay State Park is found in Colchester off Route 2.
It is a beautiful series of well maintained hiking trails each which lead to the beach and offer glimpses of mountain and lake views as you go.

It is a popular place for dogs and their human friends so if you are not fond of dogs, especially off the leash, best to avoid in all seasons. If you like dogs, you will love it.

Follow I-89 to exit 17. Take Route 2 West toward the Lake Champlain Islands.

Take the right hand turn to turn left onto Raymond Road.

Niquette Bay State Park is a fee park between Memorial Day and Labor Day but is free in the off season.

Once in the parking lot, choose any one of the 3 trails which will lead you to the beach: Ledges, Muhley or Allen.

Allen is the easiest route as it is rather flat and straight.

Muhley is longer than Ledges but both offer a moderate and beautiful hike.

Take any of the 3 trails to the beach. Once at the beach, go to the Ledges trail head sign. Standing on the trail, next to this sign, face the entrance to the beach. The sign will be on your right.

Take 8 steps forward. Turn left (facing the lake).

You will find a series of large logs on the ground. Behind the logs to the left you will see a stump.

Look under the stump - you will have to reach deep under the stump.

Enjoy our favorite state park.
