UPDATE 11/28/2014:
Box 1 OK,
Box 2 MISSING

Once a year the dry Mojave riverbed comes to life, with many groups of people building Castles on the River. The yearly event is open to sand castle enthusiasts in a variety of categories from professionals to amateurs and kids (advanced registration is recommended). The competition is usually scheduled on a weekend in November, around Veteran’s Day. These boxes are planted to commemorate this event. The event is located on the river at First Street. To get there, head north (toward downtown) on Barstow Road from Interstate 15. When the road dead ends turn left on Main Street and right on First Street, over the bridge, and to the old train station; and park by the Trains on exhibit by the museum.

Box 1. Large Castle
The first box is loacted at the East end, of the South side, of the first bridge support, South of the riverbed, adjacent an old roadway with "CLEARANCE 9ft 18in" under a pile of rocks. (18in??? - Appears to be a 10 painted over a 9 that looks like 18).

Box 2. Small Castle
Cross the river and First street, and start up the red rock mountain. The box is located about 30 feet back (towards water tower) from the peak (halfway up the mountain) nearest the street on the large sign side (not the river side) under a pile of rocks near a small bush.
