Codorus State Park is a wonderful place to spend some time outdoors and enjoy the seasons. I find this a very pleasant place to camp and would highly recommend it. I’m putting this together as a series of boxes: Campfire Cooking, Camp Coffee, and Turkey Day. There are two ways to walk this series, from the campground (where I usually start from) and from the Mary Ann Furnace Trail parking off of Black Rock Road. I will list the directions in two sets below.

Campground Loop:

(Campfire Cooking - This is box #1)

1) From the Amphitheater Parking Lot, follow the Mary Ann Furnace Trail down the gravel path
2) At the three way split, go straight and start up the hill
3) At the next three way split, go to the right and follow the hiking sign.
4) Enter the pine grotto at the top of the hill. I’ve seen deer in this area on two occasions (be quite as you enter and maybe you’ll be lucky too).
5) At the next split, follow the #2 Trial towards the yellow blaze (you will follow the yellow trail).
6) From the post with the yellow blaze, count six blazes on the trees. The sixth tree will be marked on both sides.
7) At the sixth blaze (this will be at the right fork in the trail) look to the right and find the fallen tree that looks the best to sit on (it will be about 21 steps off the trail).
8) In the V of this fallen tree you will find Campfire Cooking. Have a seat and sign in.

(Camp Coffee - This is box #2)

9) Continue down the yellow trail to the intersection of the blue trail.
10) Turn left on the blue trail.
11) At the split, stay right and continue to follow the blue trail.
12) Turn right at the white trail.
13) Cross a foot bridge and go up the hill.
14) After the crest of the hill, look for the tree in the middle of the trail with the white blazes on both sides.
15) At this tree (while you are facing down hill), look to the left.
16) Find the “Stump” that looks lie a triangle. This will be framed by a large tree and a small tree.
17) Inside a hollow, you will find Camp Coffee hiding for you.

(Turkey Day – This is box #3)

18) Continue down the hill a shot distance to a trail intersection.
19) Turn right on the white trail.
20) Follow the white blazes away from the trail head until the lake comes into sight on the left. You will cross a small foot bridge and head up a hill. (a short distance before the foot bridge is a trail to the left that will provide a nice view of the like).
21) Continue to follow the white blazes up the hill.
22) The trail will turn to the left and flatten out. You will see a tree with a large limb that used to cross the trail. (This limb was sawed off some time ago).
23) Just beyond this tree is another tree with an orange dot and beyond that on the left you will see a tree with multiple trunks (more than 5).
24) Stand with your back towards the tree with multiple trunks, look for the Y that is about 14 steps from where you are (on the other side of the trail).
25) Behind this tree, at the base is a pile of sticks, Turkey Day can be found here.
26) To head back to the campground, just follow the white blaze trail around the lake shore back to camp. ** Note: you are passing other letterboxes along the way.

Black Rock Rd Loop:

(Turkey Day - This is box #1)

1) Park at the trail head parking off of Black Rock Road
2) Cross the foot bridge for the Mary Ann Furnace Trail and start up the hill.
3) At the split, follow the white trail to the left.
4) Follow the white blazes away from the trail head until the lake comes into sight on the left. You will cross a small foot bridge and head up a hill. (a short distance before the foot bridge is a trail to the left that will provide a nice view of the like).
5) Continue to follow the white blazes up the hill.
6) The trail will turn to the left and flatten out. You will see a tree with a large limb that used to cross the trail. (This limb was sawed off some time ago).
7) Just beyond this tree is another tree with an orange dot and beyond that on the left you will see a tree with multiple trunks (more than 5).
8) Stand with your back towards the tree with multiple trunks, look for the Y that is about 14 steps from where you are (on the other side of the trail).
9) Behind this tree, at the base is a pile of sticks, Turkey Day can be found here.
10) After stamping in, continue to follow the while blazes until it intersects the Yellow trail.
11) Turn right on the yellow trail and follow the yellow blazes. (Skip to Step 15)

(Campfire Cooking - This is box #2)

15) At the intersection of the yellow and blue trails stop.
16) Continue up the yellow trail counting five yellow blazes.
17) At the tree with the fifth blaze (it will be on both sides of the tree), look to your left and find a fallen tree that looks the best to sit on (it will be about 21 steps off the trail).
18) In the V of this fallen tree you will find Campfire Cooking. Have a seat and sign in.

(Camp Coffee - This is box #3)

19) Continue on to the intersection of the yellow and white trail and turn right on the while blazed trail to head back towards the parking area.
20) Continue past the blue trail following the white blazes.
21) Cross a foot bridge and go up the hill.
22) After the crest of the hill, look for the tree in the middle of the trail with the white blazes on both sides.
23) At this tree (while you are facing down hill), look to the left.
24) Find the “Stump” that looks lie a triangle. This will be framed by a large tree and a small tree.
25) Inside a hollow, you will find Camp Coffee hiding for you.
26) After you stamp in, you will continue down the hill turning left at the next intersection to head back to the parking area.
