Back on-line! November 2, 2008

Hidden in the Ponkapoag Pond area of the Blue Hills Reservation.

The Ponky Indian is named for the local people who lived in the area in the 1600's. For more information on these people surf to: http://www.canton.org/native/

To find this elusive indian park either at the Ponkapoag Golf Course found on Rte 138 in Canton or at the fishermans beach parking lot located on Randolph St. one mile east of it's intersection with 138. Here's a map of the Reservation:
http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/trails/print/BlueHllsTrlMap07.pdf

From the Golf Course follow the green Acton Path (runs right through the course) east to the Fisherman's Beach bulletin board. From Randolph St. walk toward the pond stopping at the bulletin board.

Continue following the Acton Path east until you come to the dirt road. Take a left on the road (also Acton Path)

Take your first left after the road takes a sharp left turn(trail marker 5332). You will see a rusty metal post about 25 feet off the trail.

After a short walk you will enter a small clearing with several platforms at the far end. Look to your left and you will see a large pile of rocks close to the nearest platform. Find the etching of R.M.B. and take eight kid steps to the right. You will find the Indian sleeping in a small hole under the rocks.

After your done with the Indian continue on the path for some very nice views of the Pond. The trail will reconnect with the Acton Path.

Enjoy your walk.
