Although the trees still weren't turning much, it was a beautiful day for a drive along Rt 7. Heading north through Kent, which was very crowded, we stopped at Housatonic Meadows State Park. This is a picnic area along the river but, at this time of year at least, is mainly a fly fishing mecca. The entrance to the park is on the east side of 7 across from the Bread Loaf Mountains Cabins.
When you enter the park, go to the right and through the gate. Park as soon as you're through. Head east along the river. When you get to the top of the hill, go about 35 steps where you will see a verrry long tree stretching out to the south. The day we were there, there was a twig tepee like structure next to it. Go to the end of the tree and look for the fossil in the roots. Cover well when you're done.
