Today we drove to one of my all time favorite state parks in Illinois -- White Pines State Park.

This wonderful area offers bluffs, forest, a river & fords you actually drive through!

While my wife had her hands full with our 4 children at the playground (bless her heart) I ran up the trail to plant 2 boxes.

I had one planted when the voice over our walkie talkies rang out, "Things are getting out of control here." I went as quickly as I could to hide the second box . . . scribbling down notes for clues as I "ran" back.

If there is something askew with my clues, please let me know and I will do my best to update and clarify them.

This walk is not quite 1/2 a mile (just a guess -- if you have a better guess I will, by all means, up date this information). So, about a mile round trip with a moderate hike.

CLUES;

Once at White Pines State Park you will have to drive through 2 fords (if the water is high the road is closed, however there are pedestrian bridges you can make your way back over). immediately after crossing the second ford you will see a path into the woods to your right.

Take one of the first parking spots on the right and head up the path . . . up the narrow stair case to the top.

Follow this path along the bluffs edge, catching glimpses of the people below. What a great view!

Keep on the DIRT path and when you come to a "Y" go on and take the left . . . keeping on the bluffs edge.

Look down below, see the people crossing the ford on the giant cement steps? You will come to a wooden post with a white top to it -- stop and look right. There is a fallen tree with a stump reaching to heaven.

"Fall is Here" box is a film canister tucked into the crotch of the stump under debris. PLEASE re-cover very well making sure no one can see it at a glance.

"Fall is Here" is a stamp I carved back on January 1st and just now got around to placing it. Please use colorful ink and stamp it as many times as you want to create a beautiful collage of color.

OK, get back onto the main path and keep heading in the direction you were going.

You will soon come to a wooden fence to your left, keeping you from the bluffs edge. After the first wooden fence you will pass 3 more.

At the 4th wooden fence there will be two trees in the path, one dead the other not.

Take the path to your right until you come to a "T" go on and take the left. Take 35 steps from the intersection and you will come to a large log on the ground to your right.

There is a deer path just before this log, go ahead and follow the deer.

You will see a stump that stands about 15 foot tall, with a large carcass of a tree laying beside it.

"Dinner Time" is hidden in the decaying carcass of a tree, close to the stump it once stood on.
