Approximate Time: 45 minutes to 1 hour plus stamping
Difficulty: Easy
Ink Pads: Not in every box
Log Book: Located in last box

4/19/2013: After doing some maintenance today including replacing the 2 missing eggs, the clues have been updated to reflect work that's been done to the trails.

These boxes were hand carved and planted by Senior Cadette Troop #1009 as a requirement for their, "Hi-Tech Hide N Go Seek Interest Patch". The girls have been Letterboxing as a Troop & individually since 2004 ( over the years some eggs have gone missing & been replaced some with store bought stamps). The great Egg Hunt Series was placed in honor of the annual Easter Egg Hunt held at Capen Hill every spring. Now you can hunt eggs all year.

You may find really tall grass in the fields, we find it's not mowed regularly.

Capen Hill Nature Sanctuary is an animal rehabilitation facility, with over 72 acres of woods, streams, meadows, ponds & trails. Trails are open year round from dawn to dusk.
The sanctuary also houses & cares for injured wildlife unable to return to the wild. For more information about the sanctuary visit their site at www.capenhill.org.

DIRECTIONS: Capen Hill is located off Rt.20 in Charlton, MA. From the junction of Rt.20 & Rt.169 go west on Rt. 20 for .7 miles, the entrance will be on your left. Look for the sign (can be hard to spot as it is just around a bend). If you see the Chinese Food take out on your left you missed it. Follow the road all the way in (past the barn & house on your left), to a small parking lot at the Visitor's Center. Trail maps are available just inside the door. We suggest visiting the center after you've boxed. 4/19/13~ you could follow signs for trail parking & go back to the Welcome sign to start & then drive to the Visitor to finish.

CLUES: written by Musicnote101

Head back down the hill you came over in your car,
Go past the barn, you don't have to travel far.

At the WELCOME sign a left into the Hay Meadow you take,
Then a right down the tree line you want to make.

Find a pair of houses on your left, from the second one you see,
Count 34 paces, every other footfall will be one, two, three.........

Now on your left you will find a trail,
Follow it in, we know you can't fail.

In no time at all you'll be at the edge of a field,
In the doorway remember to keep your eyes peeled.

Take a reading of 300 degrees,
You'll see were to head back into the woods being careful please.

As you enter the woods go through the stonewall,
To your left see the tree that has had quite a fall.

Follow it to the end & go to the back,
Egg #1 is nestled under the trees base,
You must look careful it is in a rather small case.

Stamp your book and be careful too,
Rehide the box there is more to do!

Continue along the trail through the ferns you will see,
As you leave them,on your left 2 hemlocks in a row perpendicular there will be.
( they have a small friend in front & a bigger one behind)

From the hemlocks go 16 steps (count each foot fall) along,
And then with a reading of 128 degrees you can't go wrong.

Face that direction and you will see a bark peeled tree,
At the base of that is where you want to be.

Stamp your book and be careful too,
Rehide the box there is still more to do!

As you continue along the trail you will come out of the wood,
If you have come this far you are doing good.

To the left along the tree line up Capen Hill you will go,
Pass a trail on your left continue to the right real slow.

Again on your left you will find a trail,
Remember to keep watch for any animal's tail.

Go over the bridge and around the pool,
Don't fall in, that is the rule.

Sit for a rest on the granite slab,
What is under this bench you will want to grab.

Stamp your book and be careful too,
Rehide the box there is still more to do!

Now turn around and head out to the road keeping the barn on your right,
Head over to the paved path that's in sight. (Trail Parking)

Go down the paved path to where the paths split,
Stay towards the right you mustn't quit.

At the next fork go right down Blueberry Lane,
Very shortly you will have to use your brain.

When Fox Trail you hit,
Back up a few steps but do not sit.

Look for a tall twin pine on your right,
Facing this giant look to the right,
The moss covered rock is where you can sit
Facing the trail look left a bit,
For 2 sisters & a friend,
Behind & low is where this clue will end.

Stamp your book and be careful too
Rehide the box there is still more to do!

Continue along through were all the rocks lay,
Now you will have to take the "Trail Farr" away.

Take the wooden bridge until it is done,
We hope to see you are having fun!

From the end of the bridge count 8 (every foot fall) paces,
On your left are some trail markings & just ahead a
▲ shaped rock that is the key to an egg's places.

Behind this cool figure down low in the wall of stone,
Is the place where our egg is holding its own.

Stamp your book and be careful too,
Rehide the box there is still more to do!

Continue along the trail at the "Y" a left you will take,
The rest of this trail is a piece of cake.

Past the small old barn (getting a facelift) you will go,
Walk till you come to a road that you know.

Follow the road to the visitor's center
Take a seat on the bench before you enter.

Send one from your group inside the door,
Look for a basket just off the floor.

Take it back to the bench, stamp your book and ours too,
Can you find the bonus?
When you do you are through,
Although our friends in the sanctuary would LOVE to see you!

We all hoped you enjoyed our series & Happy Letterboxing!
