This is our second letterbox and we are very excited. Below are clues to help you find it. (the first letterbox was lost after a couple of years so we just replaced it. )
Begin at the Lodge Parking Lot. If you are facing the lodge, the Elakala Trail will be on your left. Take this trail. It is a gentle trail that takes you to a small waterfall. Take a minute to look around at the falls. Once you have gone over the bridge and looked at the falls, go to the end of the 3rd log on the right of the trail. Look for a tree very near by that seems to be 'hugging' a rock. Stay on the trail just passed the tree and go 15 steps into the grassy clearing up the hill. Walk towards the large rocks to the left, passing in front of a low cave. Look for a hemlock 'hugging' a large rock. The box is hidden by that tree.
Please remember to tread carefully as you are leaving the trail to find this box. Place the box back where you found it when you have finished.
If you go a little farther down the trail, you can see another smaller waterfall to the right. There is a little climbing involved to get to it, but it is definitely worth it. ENJOY!! This has been one of our favorite places to visit over the last 6 years.
