Exit I80/94 at Halsted going South. Go about 1 mile south and turn right onto Ridge Rd. Turn right into the parking lot for Izaak Walton preserve / baseball Diamonds (across the street from Lion's Pool). The address is 1100 Ridge Rd., Homewood, IL 60430.

Enter the main walking trail that starts at the northeast corner of the parking lot (trail head marked 0.00/3.60). Take the branch that goes West towards the baseball diamonds. You know you are going the right way if you see the baseball field on your left and you pass the 0.10 marker and cross a wooden path. Before you get to the .20 marker, your path is going to take a sharp right turn (90 degree right turn). When this happens, look for a path that branches to the left and heads out to the baseball diamond. You can almost imagine a humiliated Casey standing over the plate in this secluded little league field all alone, tossing baseballs up for himself to desperately swipe at, swinging to ease the memory of Mudville and restore a touch of pride....

Well, he got a hold of this one, the cover falling away as it screamed over the left field fence. It landed by a mossy low tree stump where these 2 paths meet. Take the path to the left and walk 18 paces from the tree stump. Stop and look to your right into the woods for a hollowed out log - and tip your hat to Casey's last blast.
