**** This box is still where it was placed, HOWEVER due to MANY down trees from the ice storm some of our landmarks are down. If you follow that same path the whole way until the open area where the box is.
This is a box you can grab about halfway up to the mountain. Its really just following the trail all the way but there's other clues to tell you you're on your way.
park in the mt. watatic parking lot on rt 119, known as "trailhead" if you can't get parking in the lot, the side of the road is available as well.
Take the midstate trail (yellow triangles) from the beginning of the path. Follow the state line trail (straight) instead of turning right with the midstate.
Stay straight at the fork. You'll see blue arrows. Eventually you'll see a hollow bark tree on the left. As you continue you'll see a big dead tree on the right.(these are just landmarks so you know you're following the correct path) The path begins to split in half and you'll see yet another dead tree around here, and another about 75 ft from there. You'll see a sign for the trail on the right after while, continue to go straight. After about a half hour from the start of this hike, you join back onto midstate again and the path levels for awhile. When you get to the end, go right. The sign says " mt watatic," on the third line down. Within a minute or so you will get to a rock clearing. Stand next to the rock pile in the middle there is a baby birch and a brown tree about ten paces from the pile (left from the path you came from) Back face this birch tree facing the pines (on the right when you're walking toward the birch). If you are in the right place, there is a big flat rock to your left, and one in front of you that looks like a huge slanted heart (slanted to the right) The divet in the heart hides the picnic on the mountain!
