This box will take you to one of the best views in town of the City of San Marcos. This is a 1.5 mile hike (round-trip) and the trip TO the letterbox is uphill and moderately strenuous. Naturally, the trip back is a lot easier as it's mostly downhill. Hiking shoes will help.

To find this box, take Highway 78 and exit at Las Posas. Go north on Las Posas (toward Santa Fe Hills) and go all the way to the end of Las Posas. Turn left on Avenida Leon, and find parking. Look for Quail Valley Park. Across the street from it is a view point with a couple of benches and the trailhead of your hike.

Go through the entrance of the trailhead, and you will make an abrupt descent. You will stay on this main trail for your entire hike. You will see the trail branching out occasionally, but just stay on the main one. Eventually you will see in the distance what looks like an oasis filled with palm trees and cacti. This is not a mirage! Keep walking toward it! Eventually the dirt road will become pavement, and you will see some delinquent art on the floor. Then the path turns into dirt again. At this point you will see the oasis directly to your right and a fork in the road that goes slightly uphill to the left. Take the lefthand path.

P042770AV is your marker.

Stand on top of the marker and admire the BEAUTIFUL VIEW of San Marcos! As you admire the scenery, look down for the two green mountain sea urchins. At the base of one of these sea urchins is the letterbox. Enjoy!!
