*****Please note - most boxes have been taken/stolen! - route on HOLD...
All the stamps were hand made and I will not be able to replace until Fall.
sorry

Topanga State Park, Trippet Ranch parking lot. Take Topanga Cyn Blvd. to Entrada. Go up Entrada following signs to trippet Ranch Parking lot. 2 miles.

Letterboxing with a Compass is set up to help kids practice using a compass. In most cases there are enough clues to muddle through without one however! Box names are riddles whose answers are native lants and animlas.
Stamps are hand made in a woodcut style and answer the riddle.

Hike is a loop from main parking lot, 1-2 miles round trip for all boxes. From the main parking lot, walk up the main path toward Trippet ranch.(50 yards) Walk past the fireroad... at the ranch house find the “Nature Center” sign.

BOX STOLEN 2/08 - will try to replace by 4/08
Box 1. “Who sleeps in the sheltered forest?”
From the main parking lot, walk up the main path toward Trippet ranch.(50 yards)
Walk past the fireroad... at the ranch house find the “Nature Center” sign. Stand under the red bell below the sign.
Align the compass to 256° - take 24 “kid sized” steps. Where the wood meets the earthlook below the bark to find the box.

Hike: Go back to the main fireroad you passed and take it up to an intersection “T”. Go up to the left 300 yards up hill around the bend another intersection.

BOX STOLEN 2/08 - will try to replace by 4/08
Box 2. “Who lives in the meadow”
At the intersection look to the right for a sign on “Animal signs/Elfin Forest”.
Behind this sign is a path with a short post - at post sight 131°.
Walk approximately 60 yards along that direction along the path through the oaks and past a bench.
Go up to the picnic table and see the view.... then turn from the view to see the meadow. Walk into the meadow to face the hill you were standing on. Search at the base of the last oak tree on the right you see on the hill you are facing.

Hike: Go back along path to the bench you passed previously - take fork in the trail to the right along the slope.... walk 200 yards or so until you pass a green trailer on the left of you and see a trailer marker post 8.

Bonus Box - “Even laying down I am older than all around me - who am I?”
Sight due north at post, walk 26 paces. look just under my skin....

Box 3. “Who flies in the skies”

There is a trash can and a sign post marked “Santa Ynez”. You will see post 15 across fireroad.

Bonus Box - “A shy inhabitant...”
Directly behind the post marked 15 is a deer path. - go down this path 70 “kid sized” paces. Look to the right 5 yards north
off path is a big bush. Who would burrow under here for shelter? Check behind rocks at base for box.
