** THIS SERIES IN GONE AND WILL NOT BE REPLACED*

THE SEAL SERIES
These 2 seals were carved by the talented R.T.R.W. Many thanks to her for creating them for our enjoyment.

Your search starts at Pilgrim Heights in North Truro. The turn off Rte. 6 is marked by a large brown National Seashore sign. The hike begins at the pavilion on the left side of the first parking lot. Take the Smalls Swamp Nature Trail. It is well marked with a large sign and begins to the right of the pavilion.
When you come to a fork in the trail, take the path that is bordered by a wooden fence. Walk down a series of stairs. The trail then flattens out. You’ll pass through an area bordered by high bush blueberry shrubs and small trees.
After a climb up a short set of stairs, walk down a sandy lane to a boardwalk. You’ll see and hear numerous birds hiding in the thicket. At the end of the boardwalk, pass under a gnarly archway into a tunnel of winterberry bushes.
At the top of a small rise, you’ll enter a grove of trees. At the entrance to this grove, look for 2 oaks to the right side of the trail. The second oak has 3 high branches that grow out over the trail. *At the base of the bush between the 2 trees rests box #1. It is surrounded by and covered with branches and leaves.
After stamping in, continue on to the end of the grove. Hike up a series of stairs. In less than 5 minutes you’ll reach the top of the stairs and be rewarded by an overlook of marshland, dunes and ocean. Continue down a second sandy lane to a second panoramic view.
After enjoying the view, step down the 2 stairs and walk 30 paces, left foot count only. The trail has now entered a grove of pitch pines. Look to your left to spy a group of twisted pines. *Box # 2 is tucked in on the left side of the middle tree, covered with branches, bark and pine needles. This tree’s right-hand neighbor is extremely short and twists over to the ground.
Continue on to finish the loop and return to your car.

Note: Needless to say, this trail must get busy at times and the boxes are right by the path. Please be discreet and follow the letter boxer’s creed to leave each box even better hidden than you found it. I’d love to hear from you, as we only get back to this lovely part of the world twice a year. >^..^<
