MAUMEE BAY BIRD LOVERS

Difficulty: Easy and Fun

Be sure to bring your stamps, inkpad and a pen to record your discovery.

Welcome to MAUMEE BAY STATE PARK. It's a wonderful place to bring your bikes and enjoy an entire day here. There are lots of biking trails, walking trails, boardwalks for birdwatching, a swimming beach, picnic areas for your lunch and, of course, Lake Erie to enjoy looking for shells or just taking a stroll along ther waterfront. Come and spend a great day and find your next letterboxing treasure at the same time!

To get to Maumee Bay State Park: From Toledo: go east on St. Rt. #2 and follow the signs to North Curtice Rd. From Port Clinton: head west on St. Rt. #2 until North Curtice Rd. From the south like Genoa and Woodville: head north on Genoa-Clay Center Rd., turn left on St. Rt. #579, go 1 mile to Wildacre Rd., turn right. Go up to stop sign in Curtice (Front St.) and turn left. At the next stop sign, turn right onto North Curtice Rd. and go 1 mile to St. Rt. #2 or Jerusalem Rd..

Once at the corner of North Curtice Rd. and St. Rt. #2 or Jerusalem Rd., continue north to Maumee Bay State Park, 2.5 miles. North Curtice Rd. will dead end right at the entrance of Maumee Bay State Park.

Welcome to Maumee Bay,
Where you will find fun along the way.
Enter the Park, take the road to the left,
Follow the signs toward the campground,
Turning left again.

Drive to Lot #7 at the Big Hill,
There you will start your letterboxing thrill.
Park near the back of the lot.
You'll begin where the dirt is high,
Almost halfway up to the sky.

At the top of the hill, hope you enjoy the view.
After your little hike, now look for the gray-paved path where
you'd enter the woods on a bike, go there to start another little hike.

Walk to the left, go through the woods,
Find a grassy path to your right.
Down a few short grassy steps you'll go.
Look for a birdhouse #77,
That's where you go to find your treasure on the ground below.

Be sure to watch out for muggles on bikes or walking, this can be a
busy little path. Find your treasure when you're not seen by anyone else.
Please cover the box back up with grass, leaves and sticks to rehide it carefully.
Hope you enjoyed your search and enjoy your day at Maumee Bay.
