To find where the “others” live you must go to John J. Tynan Park in Middletown, Ct.

To get there take route 66 to Higby Road, which is right next to the Red Dog Saloon. Follow Higby Road to the stop sign and right after the stop sign take a left into the parking area. From I-91 take Country Club Road to Higby Road and the park will be on your right just before the stop sign.

This hike will take you about 3-3.5 hours depending on your hiking ability and the number of people in your group who will be stamping in. One log book.

The stream you must cross can be difficult depending on the time of year and how much rain we've had. If you come at the wrong time-Good Luck. LOL

The trail starts in the western corner of the park at the blue/red marked post. Follow the trail down until you come to the woods. Cross the stream, which may be somewhat of a challenge in the spring and right after crossing the stream you will see a blazed twin sister hemlock and an old foundation on the left. Facing the foundation, look to the left and behind the grey birch, behind a trapdoor you will find a hardy little Schnauzer. Please re hide well as this is close to the trail.

Back out on the trail and you will cross a second stream which was dry when these boxes were planted. Soon you will come to an area on your right that has some small ledges. Look to your left for a blazed oak on the left side of the trail. Look from that tree at~ 68 degrees to a twin sister oak. Look on the left side of this tree in a hole behind rocks. This is a breed that I bred and showed for many years. Please re hide her well.

Back out on the trail again, continuing on until blue/red meets up with the blue trail. You will take a left onto the blue trail heading up Mount Higby. You will be traveling on a woods road, pay attention so you don’t miss the left turn off of the woods road onto the blue trail. After taking the left continue on the trail, passing some white birches off in the distance on the left side of the trail. When the birches are mostly behind you, the trail will be bearing to the right in a NW direction. When you come to a blue blazed grey birch tree, look to your right in a small beech grove for a three sister with two dead stumps and a beech growing out of it. The box is not at that tree, but if you put your back to it on it's backside and go N at ~10 degrees you will see a 3 sister about 48 steps behind it. I moved this box because there is a geocache between that first tree and a beech tree in the rotting log between them. I think the box was muggled because of the geocache so I made the changes.

Back out on the trail and continue up Higby until you see a huge pile of rocks on the right side of the trail. Across the trail from those rocks you will see another small pile of rocks and dirt. Go to the backside for the Boxer.

To get back to your car, turn around and follow the trail back out. If you are up for some more boxes and some great views, continue on blue. If you spot a car on the pull off on route 66 for the blue trail you will have a wonderful hike that will take most of the day and you will be able to pick up more boxes along the way.
