Cub Scout Wolf pack #242 is 13 boys ages 7 & 8 from Aquia Harbour. As of this writing (11/29/07) Goverment Island is not open to the general public but the city of Stafford is developing a public walkway which will hopefully be done soon. This historic trail is very easy to walk, we even had toddlers with us the day we set our letterbox! It can be muddy though! Directions-In Aquia Harbour, follow Washington Dr. to Aquia Dr. and go right. Take Aquia drive to the dead end at Lion's Park behind the horse paddock. Walk in between the swings and the pavilion to the trail. This is the trail to Government Island. An historic and beautiful spot where the stone was mined to build the White house and the Capitol building. Start on the trail. The trail is marked with red paint and/or pink ribbons. Follow the creek, cross the foot bridge and then at the "T" go left. Take the uphill path through low lying rocks and when you reach the large quarry on your right-turn left. Walk 40 Cub Scout paces (as opposed to adult paces)and find the really big rock on your left . The clue is " look for the "R" ight "S" pot!" It is a large rock with RS carved into it. Please leave word that you found our letter box! Thank you, Cub Scout Wolf pack #242. Please remember to " LEAVE NO TRACE" You can email us care of Hornickfamily@verizon.net .
