The Pali Honu is located along the Old Pali Road. The Old Pali highway once linked Honolulu to the windward side of the island. When the tunnels were constructed the old road was left in place as a family friendly hiking and biking trail.
Park at the visitor's lot at the top of the Pali Highway and walk to the overlook. In the far right hand corner of the overlook you can see the old road heading down along the mountainside. Go through the gate and past the "Road Closed sign.
The Pali Honu is hidden in the first large tree on the mauka (right hand) side of the road. It's a roughly 500 yard hike to the tree from the gate. You'll know you are at the correct tree if you stand in the center of the road looking at tree and the the highest peak visible (when the clouds aren't too thick) is directly behind you.
If you stand on the uphill side of the tree and look up, you'll see a grapefruit sized rock wedged into the tree about five or six feet off the ground. The Pali Hone is hidden behind this rock.
Be sure you put the rock back in place to completely hide the Pali Hone when you are done as this trail has heavy traffic.
