Take Route 2 West out of the Greenfield Rotary. Drive 6.9 miles from the Home Depot west on Route 2. You will pass Goulds Sugar House, which is a great place to have some pancakes when the sugaring season is running. Just past the sugar house, down the bottom of the hill, is Wilcox Hollow entrance. It is on the left and has a hanging sign that shows the entrance. Drive down the dirt road until you come to a parking area on the right. There is a sign about the Gardners Falls Project. The M+M Trail goes through this area as well, and you should take time to check this out as well.

When you get out of the car, don't walk out into the field in front of you, but walk down the dirt road until you come to the telephone pole opening. To the right, you will see a trail that takes you down to the Deerfield River.

The trail will end at the beginning of the granite boulder section. This granite boulder section runs parallel to the Deerfield River and you want to go to the right, up the river (towards the dam). Careful climbing over the boulders as they can be slippery when wet. Continue climbing over the boulders and walking on the sand unitl you come to the rock beach. This is directly across the river from the granite spillway.

Turn around and look slightly to your left. You will see a large granite boulder section that slopes up. Climb up those boulders, but watch out for the pool that holds many tadpoles in the summer time. When you get up to the top, you will be looking directly into a bunch of pine trees. On the left side of those trees, you will see a large oak tree that has a blue blaze on it. Go to that tree, then around to the back of it and into the clearing behind it. Look to the right and you will see a tree that has a yellow "Be Alert" sign on it.

When you are you standing looking at the sign, turn around and you will see a large tree growing out of a granite boulder. Look at the roots of the tree for the box.
