Number 3 is gone!

4/13/08 #2 is alive, but my clues were at fault, some people still found it but clues are amended now- I still need to check #3

3/27/08-reliable reports of box 2 and 3 missing. I will check.

extra note: There are signs that only Trumbull residents can use the Park, but the park rangers are only going after areas where there are parking problems, like the Pools and other places besides Old Mine Park. I have been assured that this place is safe to park in.

On November 5th, 2007 the girls of Girl Scout Troop 35416 of Tashua Elementary School in Trumbull placed and or found the following letterboxes. All are planted at Old Mine Park in Trumbull CT. The park is 50 yards east of the intersection of Routes 25 and 111 on 111. A compass helps on this one and there is a map in the parking lot that will give more info about the area and the #3 marker mine. All 3 hikes are fairly short.

Go down the parking lot to the second or southern bridge. Walk across. Avoid the first left (it goes to the playing field).

OMP (Old Mine Park) #1

Continue up trail a few feet. Now there is a second left, please take this one. Before the trail descends back down to the field there is a right hand turn (I think at 20 degrees) that starts going up the hill. After a bit of a walk up, the trail will flatten out. On your right will be one of the old mine attempts. Continue up hill.

If the trail breaks enough that you have to pull yourself up your getting closer. After about 80 yards you will find the deepest mine fenced in. Go left around the mine (west) to top left corner. From there take 15 steps at 290 degrees (I think there is a tree) then 15 steps at 320 degrees. The letterbox will be covered in the rocks. Please hide well and go back to where you took the second left.

OMP #2

Short hike
From the second left stay on the main trail past the pavilions. On left is a small mine with a #3 marker in front of it. Remember this marker. Continue on trail go to top of little hill (another 50 yards?). Moss covered rocks on right. A few yards up the trail there is the start of 5 trees in a row growing almost on the trail, on the left.

1st Small
2nd Big rear end, red spot on tree
3rd Its just a tree
5th Just short of a balancing rock, it’s a two sister tree (two trunks, same base), roots below

Take 12 steps up behind this rock (rock is about 3ft by 3ft). Between the second and third smaller rocks is the OMP #2 Letterbox. Now hide and go back to the #3 mine marker.

OMP 3# Gone

From Marker #3 by a small fenced in mine on the main trail. Look across the trail to a side trail. Go up this. There is a moss covered rock on the right after a few yards. Then a moss covered tree on right. Take the 2nd right trail up the hill (the trails are fairly faint, but only a few yards beyond) . If you come to a big 3 sister tree on left you have gone way too far.

Go straight up trail to top of hill (about 190 degrees). Go to tree with a big mouth. From this tree go 15 steps at 320 degrees. In roots letterbox OMP3# will be hiding. Please stamp in and hide well.

Thanks so much to all who tried to hunt for these boxes, and thanks to the Girl Scouts for being so fun in creating , hunting and placing them. Any problems with the clues or boxes please email JPS225@yahoo.com.
