***BOX MIA*** TREE WAS CUT DOWN IN LATE AUG. 2008!!!

Difficulty: Very easy
Terrain: Drive up and park with a little walk. Handicapper accessible except for a stretch up to reach the letterbox.
Time: Less than 5 minutes after you park.
Distance: Less than 25 yards from car to quest and back again.
Bring a stamp pad, your stamper, and a log book, if you want to record your arrivial. (There is a bench at this letterbox, but be discrete as it is very public.)

Start in beautiful downtown Parkersburg. Drive north on Route 14 to Emerson Avenue (WV Route 68). Turn northeast for about a half mile (.6 MILES). At the first traffic light, turn right onto 31st Street and then left into the Wood County/Parkersburg Public Library rear parking lot.

[In the event you are approaching from the north, traveling south onto WV Route 68, the library is on your left, about 1 mile south of the major intersection of Rosemar Road and Emerson Avenue. Again, turn left onto 31st street and into the parking lot behind the Wood County Library Main Branch.)

Proceed straight ahead, and pass the drop off box into the next larger parking lot. If possible, drive straight ahead and park near the split rail fence. (But anyplace in this lot is acceptable.) Walk around the split rail fence to the right to reach an entrance to the arboretum.

There are two archways here to enter the Arboretum grounds. Although one is labled "Exit", there is no restriction to walk in through that arch and along the winding asphalt path that connects the two arches. Enjoy yourself and stroll around for awhile, if you like.

Proceed up the path and reflect upon the gentle pond, complete with boulders ringing the water's edge. No, there are no good hiding spots here...they are all cemented to the ground. We must keep walking until the pathway begins to curve away to the right.

To find the LB: After some 25 steps from the archway gate, you will notice the largest, tallest mature tree (NOW MIA DUE TO REMOVAL BY CHAINSAW!) in the arboretum on your left. In fact, it is close to the split rail fence that you parked next to. (But you wouldn't want to be seen jumping that fence, now would you??!!)

There are no good hidey holes on this tree, and the grounds are well kept, limiting our options. The letterbox location is in a fork in the tree, approximately 6 feet up the single trunk.
Look for a jar wrapped in camo tape. Inside, you will find a birdhouse stamp and a log book. Please feel free to add your stamp to our log, and your comments. Not much room for more, I'm afraid. Please return the log into the sealed baggie and return the stamp and log into the jar.

When finished, please continue your walk around this pleasant little park, but leave by dusk. (The police now patrol this park as there has been vandalism after dark. There used to be a geocashe in the park and the vandalism may have been in association with that box, now removed.)

{If you have any better suggestions for a hiding spot in this park, please alert us, and we'll come move the box and the directions.}

In the event that there is nothing here, or if you do not find the item, please alert me. If this location is too visible, we will modify the description and re-hide the letterbox elsewhere. Thanks!
