Flat Stanley is a school project that one of my grandsons participated in and Gramma fell in love with the idea.
How does it work?

Students make paper Flat Stanleys and begin a journal with him for a few days. Then Flat Stanley and the journal are sent to another school where students there treat Flat Stanley as a guest and complete the journal. Flat Stanley and the journal are then returned to the original sender. Students can plot his travels on maps and share the contents of the journal. Often, a Flat Stanley returns with a pin or postcard from his visit. Especially creative hosts send the Flat Stanleys back with pictures, souvenirs, stories and reminders of the visit.
The Flat Stanley Project is a penpal activity- but it's far more than that, too. By sending a Flat Stanley it's as if the senders and the recipients have a mutual friend- a little flat guy they can both talk about.

My Flat Stanley is in box with a logbook but no ink. Color him any way you like.

Limited parking is available on the south side of route 44 across from MDC’s Reservoir #6. In the winter you may have to park at the reservoir and VERY carefully cross route 44.

From your car, head up to the dike, go left until you see a post with a blue blaze on it indicating a right turn down the hill and into the woods (looking ahead you might see the trail curve to the right and then to the left. The blue leaves the dike at the left curve).
The first part of the hike is mainly uphill (always on blue) cross the gas line and then go under power lines. After the power lines watch for a spikey downed tree on the left side of the trail, from the middle of this tree site 175 degrees and walk about 45 steps to a big oak (?) with an expired sister attached. On the flat top of this almost five foot sis...find a flat pouch with a flat stamp. FLAT STANLEY.
