Three boxes about a mile.
Directions: On Route 77 in North Guilford just north of Lake Quonnipaug. Park in the Bluff Head Trail parking area.
After parking your car, walk to the map board. Just left of that is the blue blazed trail to Bluff Head not to be done in bad weather.
You can choose to go straight up the mountain on the blue rectangle trail (which is how I planted the boxes) or follow the blue rectangle with an orange dot trail behind the cemetery for a more moderate climb. If you choose to go straight up be careful of loose rocks. Once you reach the spot where the two trails merge go left (if you went straight up) or turn around and go back (if you took the easy way).

Once on the orange dot trail and headed back for your car, watch on the right for the first almost blown down tree (leaning away from the trail at a 45 degree angle). This contains 2 small and one medium tree. Look at the base in back of the medium tree for box #1.

Continue on, going downhill, look for a perfect four sister tree on the right (no box, Gizz looked) and then stroll up a small knoll. Continue downhill, pass a two sister on the right and note that a third sister left a gaping hole at the base. Shortly after this you’ll really be going downhill and you might start seeing a house to the right. The trail bends gently to the left with a double blazed tree indicating this. After the blaze, pass by the first blown down tree on the right and then walk along the pile of rotted logs to the far end of the hollow log for box #2.

Continue downhill for the final leg of the journey. Watch on the right for a 20 foot twisty, gnarly snag with a limb on the ground. Walk to the fork of that limb for box #3. Take all boxes back to the trail to stamp in. This is a high use area.
