Three boxes on the blue with red dot trail on the west side of route 77. About three miles round trip.

These were supposed to be Valentine Day boxes but who knows how much snow cover we'll have then so I'm planting while we have this wonderful "lull" in winter.

You need to park at the Braemore Preserve in Guilford, Ct. The Preserve is on route 77 in Guilford and directly across from Bluff Head Farm. If you're coming from the south it's about one mile north of Lake Quonnipaug. Parking for the preserve is on the east side of route 77.

After parking, walk south on 77 (be careful and always walk facing traffic) for 0.2 of a mile, cross road, enter blazed trail. I was very disappointed in the west side after spending many happy hours boxing at Braemore Park but the boxes were screaming to be left here so on we go. Cross several boardwalks or bridges, along a mostly flat trail with farms to the right. When you come to a slight uphill (a knoll) look left just before the top for several trees with "rope" wrapped around them. In back of them is a nature made tee pee and in the doorway under a rock is heart #1. (I've been told that this box is tough to find because of blow downs but it's there 2-7-12) (comment from last finder: tell people to look for the flat rock covering it. There are no other rocks around, and I know you tend to plant low, which is why I looked under it. It's not under any blow downs, but right in the open)

Continue on to turn right onto a dirt road with farm buildings on the left and then some new homes on the right (not a pretty sight). Turn right at a Private Property sign, cross a wooden bridge and come to a white with blue dot trail on the left. ( comment from finder 5-12-16 Lone Pine Trail has been rerouted. Once you turn right at the "Private Property" sign, the trail has been rerouted up above the brook. The original trail still works, but the first bridge has been damaged (found this out the old fashioned way and crossed the brook getting wet). The trail comes to a three way intersection. Left will take you to the Blue/white trail and the Blue Dot Fun boxes. Right crosses the brook at a wooden bridge. Very shortly you will come to another 3 way intersection. This is where the original trail comes out. Going right will take you back, but can't cross the brook unless you want to get wet. Going left you can follow the clues from "we're going to stay on the red dot trail". For box #3, The elbow tree is down, but you can still see it on the ground with the blaze.) This trail will take you up to the Mattabesett Trail but we’re going to stay on the red dot trail. 50 steps after this junction, look right, part way up the hill for a tall "ball" top evergreen with a hole at the base. Look behind a trap door for heart #2.
Continue on, passing a "GREEN" trail on the right, climbing a bit so that you’re now above the brook and coming to a sign for James Valley Preserve. Cross a couple of bridges, jump a brook (where’s the bridge here?) Pass a neat six foot stump on the right and finally go uphill along a brook. After the trail turns away from the brook look for an "elbow" tree with a blaze and then watch very closely for an old small stone wall on the left. There’s a two foot stump almost at the beginning of it and to the left of the stump are three same size rocks. Look in the middle one for box #3.
Retrace your steps back to your car.
