There are multiple starting points from along the HocHocking Adena bikepath, anywhere from Nelsonville 14 miles to Athens. However, your goal is at the 4 mile marker on the path, so do the following:

Start in beautiful downtown Athens at the Courthouse. Driving north on Court Street, turn left after one block at the first traffic light, which is State Street. Proceed west about a mile and a half on west State Street.

This will involve cresting a hill and then swinging left around a church (now known as Arts West Athens) and continuing down the other side of the hill.
You will continue through two stop signs, Shaffer Street and then Central Avenue. Again, you drop down to the floodplain and continue due west into West State Street Park, dead ahead. When you run out of road, the park road curves to the left in a large loop. Park anywhere here. The bikepath, which is your destination, forms the border before the Hocking River.

Picking up the bikepath on foot, walk north about a hundred feet or so to observe the small mile marker stake along the path. This stake on the park side should just say "4." Just off to right, you will see a number of physical fitness stations, part of the Athens Police training course. There is no restriction to passing through this area, as it is in a public park, however it is marked as a restricted area, so play at your own risk.

From the #4 mile marker stake, begin walking further north aproximately 160 steps. At this point, you will see a 7 foot tall orange painted pipe just off the bikepath. Leave the bikepath from this pipe and walk due East, toward the nearest baseball diamond outfield. You'll note the outfield fense curves around a large tree complex made up of five or more stems. Your quest resides in the middle space between the five stems, under sticks and bark.

Bring a stamp pad and your logbook, and your own stamp to this location. Move to a bench or other location with the stamp, or do your log business right here. Please reseal the baggies and return all contents back into the letter box, closing it for the next person, covering it carefully.

If the logbook is full, please contact the name on the front cover to advise. Enjoy!
