Access VC Park by taking Exit 242 off I-40 at Forrest City, then going 13 miles north on Hwy 284. Follow the signs to the Park. Enter the park and follow the signs toward the Austell Lake Swimming Beach. Park by the playground before you get to the swimming beach. Across from the playground is a small sign marking the trailhead of Austell Trail. Go about 1 mile on this trail, crossing over many footbridges. You come to first one, then another footbridge that curves up and then down. After crossing the first up/down footbridge, look to your left, uphill, away from the water. See a big tree about 20 steps off the path. You can't see from the trail, but on the reverse side of the big tree is a 10 foot tall split. The box is inside the split in the tree. (If you reach the tree with a 4 foot tall split, you aren't quite there yet.)
