This letterbox is located in the scenic Evergreen Cemetery, near the 17th Street Causeway, and Federal Highway (US1) In Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Clues and directions:
Park in the swale on the northeast corner of Harbordale Elementary School, at the intersection of Southeast 10th Avenue and Southeast 15th Street. The school’s street address is 900 se 15th street. From that intersection, look north, and you should be able to see the long, wrought iron style fence of the cemetery on the right side of the road.
Proceed north, and access the cemetery at the northernmost entrance. Follow the path up to Babyland, but continue straight despite the turn. Continue thusly until you meet the Godfather, at which point you should turn south and pass between the two living stags. Follow this direction until you reach the most affluent house in the place, at which point you should find yourself at the path again.
Follow the pathway until you reach the log and obelisk, and turn left, heading south. Stay on the path through the bend, and at the next intersection turn south again. Follow the path still further, and it will begin to make a slow westward curve. On the outside of this curve, find the oak tree named “JJ”.
Stand in front of “JJ”, look off to your right, and scan the tree line for a Ficas that is marked the same as the human residents of the place you are in.
Delicately negotiate the slope to the left side of this tree, and move around behind it. At this point you should see the reason for which this box is named, though it may have not been obvious at first. The letterbox is nestled amongst the roots of the tree that you walked around.
On your way out, make sure to read the sign about the history of the cemetery. It’s the current home of a great many influential South Floridians.
