One of my favorite spots on the island which holds a lot of memories and inspiration is known locally as Loop Road. As a native born on the Garden Island of Kauai I would like to share this area with you in hopes you would feel the mana (spirit) that this special place holds.

Directions:
Traveling from the south head east towards the airport on Highway 50. Take a left hand turn on Highway 570 ahukini road to the airport. At the first traffic light take a left on highway 51, Kapule highway which will simply turn into highway 56. Traveling east turn left at the second traffic light on highway 580 Kuamo'o Road. WHY NOT TAKE IN SOME SIGHTS ON YOUR WAY TO YOUR DESTINATION. 10 seconds after you turn on to kuamo'o road, on the left is the Holo Holo Ku Heiau known to be the oldest place of worship on Kauai that was not built by the menehunes. Continuing on Highway 580 on the right is the Opaeka'a water falls and across the street is a view of the wailua river. To the right of this view point is a road that takes you down to the base of the river to a place called Kamokila Hawaiian village and tours are done seven days a week. Continuing on Highway 580 you are now headed to the mountains, but don't worry the roads are paved. About three miles later on the right is the University Of Hawaii's Kea Hua Arboretum. Pass the Arboretum about one mile a parking lot is coming up on the left, pass this lot drive over the creek of water and park to the right side parking lot.

Traveling from the North to the East on highway 56 you are headed to Wailua. Pass the coconut market place to the left and the shell gas station, take your next right at the traffic light on highway 580 Kuamo'o Road.

Clues:

From the second parking lot walk across the road and follow the path up the hill. You will walk pass the restroom and as you face the pavilion to the right of the pavilion is a beautiful lauhala tree. You'll find your box on a branch, be careful though, the lauhala tree has thorns.

Movie Tip:

Looking down in the valley from the pavilion is where scenes from Jurassic Park was filmed and the movie Outbreak.

Hope you enjoy your day and Loop Road!
