~~Revised - includes new color changes of trails~~1/1/10
~~UPDATE 7/16/2010 - boxes have been checked and are in place~~

Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve – Park at the end of Damon Hts Road. I will take you on a loop of yellow and blue. I strongly urge you to obtain a map. The last few times I went there maps were provided at the trailheads, but there is no guarantee that they are fully stocked. Here is a link to a map of the preserve that you can print:

These simple little stamps were carved for a winter stamping event at a library in NY held for the local children by a LBing friend of mine. A “Butterfly” encouraged and helped me to plant them at this preserve as there is now a flurry of activity happening here.

Follow the yellow trail until you come to a corduroy road. (Do you know what that is? I just learned today!) A rock pile is on the left and a 2 sister tree at 20 degrees. Go there and look to the north side of the ledge at the feet of a black birch for Box #1. (Updates 9/2020 - box 1 is currently unavailable.)

Continue on yellow. When you reach the intersection where blue crosses yellow, continue on yellow - down, down then up, up until you reach another intersection with blue. Take left on blue. Keep going until you find a large 2 trunk tree (the third sister has fallen off - 10/6/2015) with a dead center on the right of the trail. Go south from there for about 10 steps and look right for Box #2 in a tree behind a rock.

Continue to another intersection of blue vs. blue. Go left. Eventually you’ll come out of the laurel tunnels into a rock jumble of all sizes. Before you go back into the woods, you will reach a series of large boulders on the right of the trail. The first one currently has a log on it. From here go 310 degrees to a small toad rock leaping from the ground at a 45 degree angle with a 2 sister tree on its right. You’ve now found Box #3. Continue until you reach the intersection Blue and yellow. Take a sharp right towards the exit sign and follow yellow back to your car.

Enjoy!
