The Whale Trail

Location Dee Dee Bartels nature center and fishing pier
Which is located at the end of Pogy Place off of North 14th st at the north end of Amelia Island!
You will also need to check the tides just to make sure that it's not extremely high tide here's a link: http://www.thiswaytothe.net/tides/florida/fernandina-beach-amelia-river-fl-tide.html

Clue: Enter the parking lot- find a spot near the cabana and restrooms. Observe the sign under the cabana. After you read the sign turn around to the boat ramp, walk toward the ramp go to the beach on the far side of the ramp. Continue down onto the beach-look far down the beach and you'll spy a cedar tree hanging out over the water, head toward that tree.
The best path to take is as close to the water as possible-observe the sign that states that you are entering "Fort Clinch property" as long as you leave nature as is you will be ok. Walk right above the oyster shell line toward the cedar tree. When you come to the Big Oak go up and over the large trunk, you will see footprints from explorers before you. Go around the next set of small trees the best way you can find, around or over it doesn't matter. Look around under your footsteps there may be beach treasures about! Keep walking toward the cedar tree, take your time and enjoy the view around you. Beware there may be wildlife lerking in the woods to your right- remember they are more afraid of you than you are of them, just keep your distance if you encounter them. As you come to the beached logs- you can choose to walk the plank and duck under the trees or take the path through the short marsh. If the tide is too high you may only have one choice.
When you come to the split in the path at another beached log take the broken shell path that takes you straight to the cedar tree. At the end of the broken shell path it gets a little tricky go out onto the rock beach but be careful, sometimes there are small creatures moving around on the rocks so watch you step-also some of the rocks may move so watch your step.
Once you get around the point past the cedar tree-watch your head! Down the beach you you will see the tip of Fort Clinch State Park! Go onto the bach and look to your right find a path made of a young cedar trees roots, go up into the enchanted cedar forest. This is State Park Property so if someone see's you do not enter the forest. Once you are in the Enchanted Forest you will see a leaning three trunk cedar tree in front of you find the trail veering left to the small clearing, you will see an oak hasa been marked (not by us) follow the trail that is to the right of that tree you will pass under a very strange oak limb to another clearing-to your north you will see a red rock! Go stand on the red rock. Facing north-up a small hill there is a very large reaching for the bottom of the hill. Go under the tree to it's walking legs, You will see it's fallen brother next to him-look for your treasure at it's base. After you find your treasure go back to the red rock and then to the small clearing-head toward the snad path back toward the direction you came from. You will see a small camping prohibited sign on your right-your on the right path out. Follow your original path out hope you enjoyed the hike!

On your way out after you've passed the beached logs Stop at the oak tree with two trunks-look toward the pier notice the beach area this is the resting place of the lost baby right whale that was killed off the coast of GA and towed into the beach here for scientific samples...we as a family experienced watching the scientist cut away and tke sample then dig a large grave and bury the whale right here on this beach. This explains the stamp and the name of the box.
