There are multiple starting points from along the HocHocking Adena bikepath, anywhere from Nelsonville 16 miles to Athens. However, your goal is near the Eastern end of the path, so do the following:

Proceed 3 miles east of Athens to the far East State Street exit. Then proceed West on East State Street back toward the business district, a little less than a mile. Turn left (South)into the entrance to HockHocking Bikepath parking lot.

The entrance is marked by a small reflective blue sign, and the parking lot holds about ten cars. There is a kiosk here, the only structure marking the spot. Don't block the bikepath nor the handicapped parking space please.

NOTE: The bikepath is on the former railroad bed. An active bikepath proceeds 16 miles, further west past the Athens Recreation Center, which is about a mile and a half east.

ALTERNATIVE DIRECTIONS FROM COOLVILLE ALONG Route 50 West:
[Watch for the exit to East State Street , 4 miles before Athens. The exit to East State Street business district is plainly marked. Take the exit and begin clocking one mile from that exit ramp.]

To find the LB: Vehicular access to the bike path is blocked by three metal posts set into the ground. Stand against the one closest to the Kiosk. 3RD POST MISSING, AS IS BOX!****Extending the line formed by these three posts to the south (toward the river), find the scrub tree that grows just over the drop off to the flood plane. From the last post, the distance is about 15 steps. Wedged against the base of the trunk, under some sticks, leaves, or bark should be the object of your quest. Please reseal the camo jar well and attempt to wedge it against the tree trunk so it does not roll or float away.

Watch for muggle traffic and be descrete. Please reseal the baggies and return all content back into the letter box, closing it for the next person, and carefully consealing.

If the logbook is full or if the LB is missing, please contact me to advise. Enjoy!

NOTE: An additional mile of paved path has been added from aproximately the Eastern exit of Route 50 running along the highway past the Pepsi plant. So though this box is known as the bikepath starting point, the new mile extension may confuse this issue. Directions still follow to the correct location.
