You must find the Rose Tree Woods Swim Club In Broomall. You take Sproul Rd (320) into Broomall, right before Sproul splits and becomes Springfield Rd (across from Marple Library), is Candlewood. Turn onto Candlewood and follow until you see the sign for Rose Tree Woods Swim Club, turn into lot.
The entrance is on Candlewood. Drive over the small bridge, go to the far corner of the lot near the play gym. Park in the 7th spot from the corner facing the stream and Kooky Bird Hill.
If you are quiet, with the lot empty and car engine off, you just might hear the sqwauk of the Kooky Bird. This is a busy area in the summer, parking lot may be full and the trail on the hill has many passerbys, be careful.
Cross the stream at the old, rusty heater laying in the stream. Turn right and go 13 adult paces, will be following stream. Turn 90 degrees to left, and face uphill, but look to the left and the right, listen for any strange sounds or flapping wings, the Kooky Bird may just be watching you. You will be in the center of the trail entrance. Follow trail uphill 32 adult paces (50 kid paces), will come to fork in trail, bear right.
Go another 18 adult paces up trail, stop. At your left will be a snapped tree with "65" carved into trunk, actually it is 65 kid paces from trail start up to "65" tree. This is the alleged number of people the Kooky Bird attacked, and being a smart, crafty bird, carved the number "65" with his sharp beak.
Look to your right and you will see off of the trail a rotted stump, between a young tree and a large tree. This rotted stump is where it is said the Kooky Bird lived, and he placed the stump there to remember where his home was. Walk to the stump, you will pass 5 trees on your right, the 6th tree is the one. Under large tree is the prize.
Enjoy, but put back and hide well.
Box contains pen, stamp, and book.
Also has hitchhiker.
