~I thought I would put out a little something on a great section of the Mattabesett Trail in Durham. There is no ink pad in this box, green would do nicely though.

From Route 79 South, coming from Durham center, turn left on to Old Blue Hills Road. Follow this for about .7 miles to a pull off at the top of the hill. Be sure to pull off of the road here.

Start out with the blue blazes, twisting and turning along the way. Pass by the cool Coginchaug Cave/overhang at about .75 miles and then come to an intersection with the red/blue blazed trail.
Stay true to the blue and continue on, skirting a cliff on the left and then crossing a stream (this may be seasonal). Still following the blue, walk up a rocky ravine and through lots of laurel. When you get to a level place and see some large boulders on either side of the trail, stop.
Go to to the lichen covered boulder that is ~ 5.5 foot high on the right and walk 21 steps on the trail. Stop. Turn right and walk 5 steps off trail to a tree. Look behind it, in its roots, to find this little piece of Ireland.

I hope you enjoyed the walk.

Flutterby~
