Four erstwhile school chums was nostalgic about the bittersweet passage from childhood to puberty in this gentle coming-of-age tale. Reuniting with the gang takes Samantha (Demi Moore) strolling down memory lane as she recollects the magical summer of 1970, when then-12-year olds first experienced sexual awakening, shared their secrets and did battle with bullies. The high-powered cast includes Melanie Griffith, Rita Wilson, and Rosie O'Donnell. Now and Then was partially filmed in Savannah...big surprise given the theme of this series.
Although I have already "come-of-age" I can relate to the need for close girlfriends and have spent many hours with my Savannah girls laughing, dishing, and crying. A favorite hangout is the Toucan Cafe off Stephenson Ave. I highly recommend taking time for dinner...you won't regret it! The chocolate mousse is to die for!
After your meal, stroll arm in arm to the back of the parking lot. Inside the hollow of a stump you will find this tribute to girlfriends...both now and then.
