Lucky Larry is waiting for you along the banks of the beautiful American River in Rancho Cordova, California. From Highway 50 take Sunrise Blvd North. You will go through several stop lights, the last one of which is at Gold Country Blvd. Take the next right on South Bridge Street. If you cross the river, you've gone too far. If you don't have the annual county park pass, pay $5 (a bargain!) at the kiosk and enter the parkway. Continue down the road, staying on the right. You will pass the Upper Sunrise boat launch on your left. Drive on until you reach the LAST parking area at the end of the road. Park and LOCK your vehicle and begin walking down the gravel service road. Stay on the roads and trails at all times because poison oak abounds. After a short while take the trail that forks to the left off the main road at about 330º. Follow this meandering trail, cautiously avoiding the rusty trap door, down the trail at about 330º into the shady oaks. Soon, you will reach the bike trail, which you will cross and go left (west) for about 50-55 steps, depending on your stride, to a small dirt trail. Take 5 steps down the trail and look to your right. At about 40º you will spy a small mound of rocks. Just over the top of this mound, on the river side and about 3 feet from the east end, Lucky Larry lurks beneath some loose rocks. There is no need to descend the embankment toward the cliff edge and the poison oak. Larry wouldn't want his human friends to get injured or itchy, even though so many have tried to catch him. He's a forgiving fellow, so please help Larry's run of good luck to continue by rehiding him carefully. To return to the parking lot from whence you came continue down the bike trail in a westerly direction passing 2 horseshoes. Just before the third horseshoe (oops, last time we checked the third horseshoe marker had gone missing, but the post that held it is still there!), cross the bike trail and follow the small dirt (and later rock)trail back to your car. Lucky Larry wishes you well!
