To reach the Brainard Hill trail head of this section of the Mattabesett Trail: Take exit ten off route nine, go south on 154.
0.7 miles to Thayer Road; turn right go 0.1 mile to Nedobity Road, turn right go 0.8 miles to Brainard Hill road, turn right and go about a mile to trail head on left. Limited parking. The hike is just over two miles round trip.

The beginning of this hike immediately caught my attention. The brook was in full swing, coming from all directions to tumble over where the old dam used to be, although it made the crossing of it a bit hazardous. After crossing safely to the other side you’ll gradually climb through LOTS of mountain laurel and see many ledges on both side of the trail. Eventually the trail will level out and just before a STEEP down hill stop at a five foot tall stump on the left. Site 230 degrees to the end of a long ledge about 30 feet off trail. Look under far edge for The Eagle Flies Again.

Continue on blue going down and coming to what is known as “The Pavement” a long flat slab of rock, go right across the top of it. Watch to the right of you for some really great rock ledges and formations coming finally to what is known as “Eagles Beak Point” right in front of you. The trail goes around it to the right but first you MUST take a look at this view. You can see for miles and miles with no house in sight, who could ask for more? After getting your fill continue going a bit uphill and just before the next big rock ledge formation, look right for a long fairly flat boulder. Look under the upper end for Eagles Beak.
