Gone with the Wind II

One of the first and most popular letterboxes at Stone Mountain was “Gone with the Wind” carved by Amanda from Seattle and planted by Mark. Unfortunately, the box has been missing for more than a year. With permission from Mark and Amanda, we have planted another box named after the famous book and movie.

Park in the Azalea lot behind the Plantation. On the Plantation grounds inside the split rail fence, you will see a green building with 3 chimneys. Across the street from the double chimney there is a stump. About 20 yards to the right of the stump is a large fallen tree parallel to the road. From the stump of that tree, walk into the woods on a bearing of 24 degrees until you spy a tree shaped like a huge football goal post. Between the goal post tree and a large moss-covered rock is another fallen tree. In the fork of that tree you will find the box.

Helpful Hint: Most of our boxes in the park can be found in clusters in areas that are marked on the park map.
1. Plantation: Gone with the Wind II (1)
2. Song Bird Trail: Song Bird Series (6)
3. Nature Garden: The Owl and the Hare (2)
4. Walk up trail: Snidely and Friends (3)
5. Carillon: Robert and Carillon II – HHH (3)
6. Top of the Mountain: Top of the Rock Series (3)
Hope this helped you get started at the rock.

We hope you enjoy your visit to Stone Mountain. Happy Trails to you.
