Our family spent St. Patrick's Day at Lake Texana State Park. We were inspired to place a letterbox in St. Patrick's honor! The letterbox's stamp is a shamrock because St. Patrick taught the pagans of Ireland about God with the shamrock as a visual aid. He taught them that God is three Persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), but still one God; like the shamrock has three leaves, but is still one shamrock.
Directions:
Lake Texana State Park is about 80 miles southwest of Houston via Hwy 59. In Edna, exit southeast on Hwy 111 for 6 miles to park entrance on the left. Pay fee then go left at T-junction and soon you will cross a bridge. Continue through first camping area and cross another bridge. Just over the second bridge, park on the left at the Texana Trail - Entry Point #3 trailhead.
Clues:
From trail marker 7, take 45 steps. You should see a large tree on your left. Take 30 more steps and look to your right. About 15 steps into the woods should be a large multi-trunked tree. The letterbox is hidden in a hole at the base of the trunks and is covered with sticks. Please rehide with sticks when you replace the box.
